What’s on in Portsmouth this weekend? 10th/11th May 2014

CampBestivalTourIt’s the second weekend of the month which means See! Make! Do! is on at Aspex Gallery and you can book a space for your child to take part in an artist led workshop. These are great sessions with a variety of activites using different media and cost just £6.

Straight after that session the Camp Bestival Travelling Circus Tour will kick off at the Gallery featuring a Rob Da Bank DJ set.  Top Banana Circus will be around teaching circus skills and there will be facepainting by Cheeky Monkey Face Painting, circus craft workshops and novelty photo booth, all totally FREE. If you fancy tickets to Camp Bestival – THE festival for families and children, then you can book them on Saturday without a booking fee. There’s also a chance to win Camp Bestival tickets for the family and you can get a 50% off voucher for a family ticket to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The session will take place between 12 noon and 3 pm, feel free to come in circus themed fancy dress.

Top Banana Circus will be busy on Saturday as they are also holding a workshop in the morning at Portsmouth Guildhall and will also be holding them on the 17th and 24th May if you want to book ahead.

Carnegie Library are holding a Saturday Activity club between 10.30 am and 12 noon with a Cowboys and Cowgirls theme, drop in for free stories, craft and more.

Ticketsolve_mediumAt the Kings Theatre you can see Hugless Douglas, a beautiful adaption of the popular children’s book by David Melling using puppetry, music and high energy storytelling. Little cubs aged 3 – 7 will enjoy this heart warming tale but grown ups will have a lot of fun too.

Further afield in Havant you can see The Three Little Pigs in an innovative retelling by Circo Ridiculoso at the Spring Arts & Heritage Centre on Saturday.

Odeon will be showing Moshi Monsters: The Movie for their Kids Saturday and Sunday morning screenings at 11 am. Vue cinema are showing Frozen in 2D and 3D at 10.30 and Khumba at 10 am, both Saturday and Sunday as part of their Kids AM deal for £1.75 a ticket (£3 for 3D screenings). Later in the week don’t forget the Newbies session on Tuesdays at the Odeon for parents and babies, you can catch Amazing Spiderman 2 on the 13th May at 11.15 am.

If you’re after a bargain this weekend then you are spoilt for choice. There’s a table top sale on at St Philips Church in Cosham on Saturday; a Baby & Children’s Nearly New Sale at Cosham Community Centre on Saturday at 2.30 pm and there is also a Little Pickles Market taking place in Waterlooville at Deverell Hall on Sunday at 2 pm. You can also find the Makers Fayre on at Stansted House this Sunday 12 noon – 4 pm featuring unique and handmade goods sold by local crafters.
